The History of the Method’s Origin

The History of the Method’s Origin

There is a huge difference between “how it all started” and “what the true origins of the method’s techniques are.” Of course, the very idea of using these objects (singing bowls) for health‑related purposes originated with the Nepalese people. The tradition of making singing bowls comes specifically from Nepal, from the Newar craftsmen. We cannot provide reliable research data, and we do not want to rely on unsubstantiated stories. We can only share what we have seen with our own eyes.

We witnessed how, just 15 years ago, Nepalis would produce sound from singing bowls by striking or rubbing them, saying that this promoted spiritual development and chakra cleansing. In other words, they were performing ritual actions with what was essentially a souvenir item. They would, of course, guarantee total purification and healing. But there was nothing resembling a coherent system in any of this. They could not answer any substantive questions. Over time, we observed their level of competence gradually increasing. They began placing the bowl on the body and tapping it. This evolution is linked to the growing flow of tourists to Nepal: they made demands and shared their own ideas. Gradually, the rituals involving the bowls acquired a therapeutic veneer. This came to be called “chakra massage.”

Traditional Nepali bowls

The situation is rather amusing. Some tourists are effectively teaching the Nepalis, while other tourists learn from the Nepalis, believing they are receiving ancient knowledge from its authentic source. They even cite “real historical” teacher figures and tradition names — all, of course, entirely fictitious. Please do not take offence at the Nepalis for these inventions. As long as there are people who need a miracle, they will get that miracle. The Nepalis are simply responding to market demand.

Many “sound healers” claim they learned from Tibetan monks. This is an absolute fabrication. We have many friends among the lamas and monks from Tibet and the Mustang Kingdom. They state unequivocally that no such tradition exists in Tibet — nobody there knows about it. They are always very surprised when we show them the interesting effects we can produce. We have enjoyed a long‑standing, multi‑year friendship with these people and are very warmly welcomed in certain monasteries. This is simply a matter of friendship. We are drawn to the special, comfortable atmosphere within the monasteries and temples, and we very much appreciate the pleasant interactions with these individuals. We bring groups of our students there to immerse themselves in this atmosphere. We are not affiliated with Buddhist practices; we simply value the hospitality we are shown.

It is both amusing and revealing that some of our students joined us on trips to Nepal to visit “that very” monastery and finally find the true “source of knowledge.” You can surely imagine their disappointment upon discovering there was no such source. The espionage mission was a complete failure. Therefore, we recommend that you approach the matter as mature adults and not search for something that does not exist. There is the realm of mystical miracles, and then there is the domain of precise knowledge — systematised through intellect and the experience of a qualified specialist who can draw on the achievements of Western science and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

The first stage in the development of the method was the fascination with the possible miracle and the hint of benefit — what we observed in Nepal 15 years ago in the rituals performed by souvenir vendors. The second stage was asking the question: “How can this actually be used?” This is where knowledge of physiology, neurophysiology, hypnotherapy, and music therapy became essential. In his research, Dr. Surikov also incorporated experience from physiotherapy, reflexology, knowledge of the system of biologically active points and meridians, Zakharyin‑Ged zones, and even laser medicine. Ultimately, no esoteric knowledge proved necessary.

In the contact method, the percussive technique has been completely replaced by the rotational technique (producing vibration through friction). The precise parameters of the bowls suitable for this purpose have been identified. You will not find such bowls in Nepalese souvenir shops; their production had to be established under strict supervision. These bowls are manufactured under the Healingbowl® brand. As a result, Dr. Surikov developed a series of algorithms for using several types of bowls for different purposes. Each algorithm is fully transparent; the entire mechanism of action is scientifically grounded and safe when applied correctly, and its effectiveness has been confirmed through experience and research.

For an objective analysis of effectiveness, we used a hardware‑software complex before and after each session. The device records the client’s electrocardiographic signal (ECG), processes it on a computer, and calculates a set of informative parameters reflecting the body’s functional state. This is done by analysing heart rate variability — providing a quantitative assessment of adaptation, stress response, emotional state, and physiological changes. This approach not only allows us to objectively evaluate the results of a session but also to track progress from session to session and adjust the course programme accordingly. We also conducted studies of blood parameters.

The method has generated significant interest among reflexologists and TCM specialists. The reason is that the vibration produced by the special “massage” bowls is no less effective than other methods of stimulating acupuncture points — and often yields superior final results. Moreover, instead of causing pain, the vibration actually has an analgesic effect. We have experience combining acupuncture with vibrational stimulation. There is also a completely independent system developed by Dr. Surikov: Vibropuncture with Singing Bowls.

If you are not a medical specialist, in most cases it is sufficient to use general, simple algorithms to strengthen and maintain health. That is why Dr. Surikov’s method has gained great popularity in the spa and wellness sectors. The algorithms are easy to master; when using Healingbowl® singing bowls, positive client feedback is virtually guaranteed.

Private individuals and enthusiasts are very happy to engage with Healingbowl® singing bowl practices. This is a highly accessible form of creative practice that brings immense benefits for healthy longevity and emotional balance. Within families, the bowls help both children and adults; in workplaces, they serve as an excellent tool for maintaining productivity, fostering team cohesion, and creating a comfortable environment. Both budget‑friendly options and premium collector’s editions are available.
