Tingsha (karatals) and bells

The high-frequency sound of Tingsha (Tibetan name) or Karatals (Indian name) induces a distinct clarification of consciousness and sharpening of attention. Therefore, it is widely used in numerous teaching fields wherever relevant — from yoga to coaching.

Tingsha plays a very important role in singing bowl practices. While the deep, soft sound of singing bowls immerses one into a meditative state of light sleep, during the practice, the light sound of Tingsha can slightly sharpen attention if needed. At the beginning and end of the practice, such action is absolutely necessary.

Tingsha is a crucial practitioner’s instrument. It is essential for forming active states. Tibetan Lamas say that Tingsha is an instrument for clarity of mind. They always use it, especially during teaching.

We incorporate Tingsha in sessions with singing bowls to prevent individuals from falling into deep sleep during daytime sessions, as well as during teaching. This helps maintain an optimal level of consciousness and attention throughout the practice.
